UNESCO Global Geopark The history of the South Funen Archipelago begins over ten thousand years ago at the end of the Ice Age. As the ice caps melted, sea levels rose, flooding Stone Age settlements and forests and creating the unique archipelago landscape of 55 islands and islets. The rapid sea level rise has characterised the life of the area, which continues to develop with island life, shipping and agriculture, thanks to the special geology of the current South Funen and Archipelago.

Geospots

In Svendborg and the surrounding area you will find both geological and cultural-historical traces of the Ice Age. If you want to explore the past, you can go to a geospot. At a geospot, you have the opportunity to experience a special landscape and get in touch with the traces of the Ice Age. Here you can see the geospots in Svendborg municipality.
