Would you like to experience Svendborg in an alternative way? Try an audio story that guides you around Svendborg and the surrounding area while you immerse yourself in history and culture! Have fun with many wonderful new tours. Enjoy nature with seductive and inspiring audio stories in your ears.

The Silence of the Sound

The Silence of the Sound is a dramatised audio story that crosses the tracks of six writers from South Funen: three living and three deceased. Actor Lars Mikkelsen is the narrator who guides the audience through the 6 km walk from the harbour in Svendborg to German dramatist Bertold Brechts Hous in Skovsbostrand. The authors at the centre of the story are Bertolt Brecht, Karin Michaëlis, Tom Kristensen, Josefine Ottesen, Mikael Josephsen and Jesper Wung-Sung.

Baggårdteatret in Svendborg has produced this audio story and two other audiowalks written by local authors and playwrights. Most recently, the theatre won ‘Fiction of the Year’ at Prix Audio 21, which is Denmark's largest audio award.

Tales from Svendborg Sound

With Tales from Svendborg Sound, you can delve into the many stories and tales that Svendborg Sound keeps in its depths. Hear about the many shipyard workers, barons, writers, sailors and soldiers who have all left their mark on the Sound throughout the many, many years. The stories can be experienced from the vintage ferry M/S Helge, but you can also follow the map and take the journey in your own boat, kayak or from your living room. The stories have been created in collaboration between Svendborg Museum and Svendborg Harbour.

The Mystery of Elvira Madigan

The Mystery of Elvira Madigan, the young thightrope dancer who was murdered by her married lover, offers a dramatised and sensuous true-crime audio walk. A journey that takes you back to the summer of 1889, following in the footsteps of Elvira Madigan and Sixten Sparre as the couple embark on the last walk of their lives on Tåsinge.

Poetry route - Johannes Jørgensen

The Danish author Johannes Jørgensen is best known today for his masterpiece St Francis of Assisi. He was born in Svendborg, but moved from his birthplace to Copenhagen to study and later to Assisi in Italy, where he lived for many years before moving back to his childhood home in Svendborg, where he also ended his days.

The Poetry Route with Johannes Jørgensen is a tour of Johannes Jørgensen's childhood town of Svendborg with stops at significant places ranging from his childhood home, St. Knud's Church, the harbour where his father's ship was located, and the cemetery with the family grave.

Listen to Art is designed to tell the great stories hidden in art in public spaces. The sounds of Svendborg - for the whole family

Welcome to ‘The Sound of Svendborg’ where you will be taken on a tour to places in Svendborg where there are some exciting stories to listen to.

All the stories are based on real events with a splash of artistic freedom. On the tour, you'll get insight into some events from Svendborg's history that have been dramatised to bring them to life. Dramatised by children and adults, you will be led by the hand of the Narrator who will lead you from place to place.

At the end of each scene, you have the opportunity to solve some tasks and take a few pictures that you can post on ‘The Sound of Svendborg’'s Facebook profile - It's completely voluntary, but great if you want to share your experience.

The scenes take place both in Svendborgs city centre and on the ridge that surrounds the city.  This means that families and school classes can enjoy the stories, solve tasks together and take a nice walk in and around Svendborg city.

The 5 Planets

The work The 5 Planets, created by artist Viera Collaro, is integrated into the facade of the sports centre on the main traffic artery Dronningemaen in Svendborg, where it is a daily art experience for students and teachers at Haahrs School and also for the many passing road users.

A narration has been created for the work, which goes behind the scenes of the work. Here you get to hear about the artist's thoughts behind the artwork and what the students at the school think when they look at the luminous artwork.

How to

You can find the audio story by visiting the artwork and scanning the QR code on the artwork sign on the sports centre or listen to it on the Gallery DGV website.

The lightshow is turned on every day from 7 - 9 am and then again from 3.30 - 8 pm.

Geopark Sound

South Funen offers many great audio walks where you can take some lovely walks in nature and listend to a fitting story. UNESCO Global Geopark The South Funen Archipelago also has its own app ‘Geopark Sound’ with sensuous audio stories. In their app you can find the sound walk ‘Echo of the Island’. The audio walk takes place around Ærøskøbing, and is about the famous sculptor Gunnar Hammerich and the Ærø-born painter Carl Rasmussen.

‘Echo of the Island’ is a collaboration between Hunhund Productions and Geopark Det Sydfynske Øhav, and in 2022 it won the award for “Fiction of the Year” at the Prix Audio awards.
